Gracious Words Pour From the Wise

Reflection

Verse twenty-three locates the source of good speech before it describes its effects. The heart of the wise makes the speech judicious. The quality of what comes out of the mouth is determined by the quality of what is happening inside the person speaking.

Judicious speech is not calculated speech. It is speech that has been shaped by wisdom operating in the heart, producing words that are considered, appropriate, and oriented toward what the moment and the person actually need. That process is invisible from the outside. The result is not.

Persuasiveness follows from this naturally. A leader does not need to develop persuasion as a separate skill when the heart is wise and the speech flows from it. People are drawn to words that carry genuine wisdom. They are moved by leaders whose communication reflects something real underneath, not technique applied on top of emptiness.

Verse twenty-four then describes what that speech produces. Sweetness and health. The fruit of wise speech is not just cognitive. It reaches the soul and the body of the person who receives it.

For leaders, this closes the loop on a month's worth of communication content. The ultimate source of speech that produces life is not better technique or more careful word choice. It is a heart that has been made wise. Everything else flows from that.
