He Has Risen

Matthew 28:5–6 (ESV)

Scripture

Matthew 28:5–6

Reflection

The tomb was not expected to be empty.

Everything leading up to this moment pointed toward an ending. The crucifixion was public. The death was confirmed. The burial was final. There was no ambiguity about what had taken place.

When the women arrived, they came to a place that should have held a body.

It did not.

The absence is the message. He is not there.

The resurrection does not adjust the outcome. It replaces it. What appeared to be complete is no longer complete. What seemed final is no longer final.

Jesus does not survive death. He overcomes it.

It is the turning point of the entire human story.

The resurrection is not symbolic. It is reality.

There is nothing to compare this to. No human effort mirrors it. No leader repeats it. This is not a model to follow or a principle to apply.

It stands on its own.

From this moment forward, death does not hold the same authority. It still exists, but it no longer defines the end.

The empty tomb stands as the evidence.
