The Archetype Leadership Index · Culture Science
Leadership becomes measurable, visible, and directional.
ALI is a leadership condition diagnostic built to help leaders see the conditions they are creating, long before drift becomes damage.
What ALI Is
A mirror. Not a personality test. Not an engagement survey. Not a morale score.
Most leadership tools focus on personality, sentiment, or engagement. Those tools tell leaders how people feel, but feelings are unreliable indicators of leadership health. People can feel good in declining environments. People can feel frustrated in strong ones.
ALI measures what feelings cannot tell you. It measures the environment leadership creates, the conditions that shape how teams operate day to day. These conditions exist whether they are measured or not. ALI simply makes them visible.
ALI is a mirror. It shows leaders how their leadership is being experienced based on impact, not intent.
ALI Is
A leadership condition diagnostic engineered specifically for small and mid-sized organizations, environments where behavior, decisions, tone, and clarity move fast and affect people immediately.
Why ALI Exists
Leadership has real consequences. It shapes people's confidence, health, families, and futures.
Over decades of leadership, one pattern kept repeating. Leadership creates conditions. Conditions shape culture. Culture determines outcomes.
Most leaders never see these conditions clearly. They feel the symptoms - tension, disengagement, misalignment - without understanding the structure beneath them or how early those signals appear.
Traditional tools ask whether people are happy, motivated, or engaged. Those questions matter, but they are downstream. They do not tell leaders what kind of environment they are creating or where that environment is heading.
ALI was not conceived as a survey. It was designed as a system. The goal was never to score leaders. The goal was to give leaders visibility into the wake they are creating, so they can lead with intention instead of assumption.
The Pattern
Leadership creates conditions. Conditions shape culture. Culture determines outcomes.
The Problem
Most leaders never see these conditions clearly. By the time the symptoms become obvious, damage has already occurred.
The Solution
ALI exists to surface those patterns early, when leaders can still act without causing harm.
The Seven Conditions
The conditions leadership creates. Measured four times a year.
These seven conditions are universal. They exist in every organization regardless of industry, structure, product, or market. ALI measures all seven simultaneously because no condition exists in isolation.
Clarity
How well people know what matters.
Clarity is how well people know what matters: priorities, expectations, and what good looks like in the day to day. It is not whether the leader feels clear. It is whether direction, tradeoffs, and decisions land for the team and stay intelligible when pressure hits. Everything else in the system depends on this.
Communication
Whether information moves in both directions.
Communication is whether information moves in both directions, not merely whether leaders talk. It is the delivery system for clarity. It covers whether messages land, where bottlenecks and distortion appear, and whether the team is stuck in loops, assumptions, or leadership by rumor.
Consistency
How reliably leadership shows up the same way over time.
Consistency is how reliably leadership shows up the same way over time: standards, follow through, emotional steadiness, and the match between what leaders say and what they do. Consistency is what earns the right to be trusted. Inconsistency reads as caprice, erodes trust, and teaches people to second guess or protect themselves.
Trust
Whether this is a place where people can be honest.
Trust is whether this is a place where people can be honest: psychological safety, fairness, room to disagree, and reactions to bad news that do not train silence. Trust is built by pattern, not by intention — it is the result of consistency over time. High trust shows up as candor and early problem raising. Low trust shows up as filtering, fear, and late exits.
Alignment
How well shared intent and lived behavior line up.
Alignment is how well shared intent and lived behavior line up: common read on values, standards, and direction, and whether the group is rowing the same way. Alignment is what happens when a team that trusts its leader is actually pointed in the same direction. Without the prior conditions, alignment is forced. With them, it emerges.
Stability
How steady and predictable the environment feels.
Stability is how steady and predictable the environment feels: structure under stress, how conflict is held, and whether roles and expectations hold instead of lurching. Stability is the output of the first five conditions functioning together. It is the difference between a team that can perform under load and one that is constantly bracing for the next shift in tone or rules.
Drift
Whether the conditions are holding or silently sliding.
Drift is the pattern where small, tolerated slips in clarity, standards, and accountability compound: avoiding hard conversations, tolerating ambiguity, slowly shifting how things really work. Drift is not a parallel condition; it is the warning signal that one or more of the first six conditions are eroding. On the dashboard, Drift flags growing mismatch and erosion before it becomes visible damage.
The first six name the conditions of leadership people live in. Drift names whether those conditions are holding or silently sliding, the early warning channel, not a separate virtue like trust or clarity.
The Method
Environmental Measurement. Pattern Detection. Directional Insight.
Environmental Measurement
A quarterly pulse that measures conditions, not emotions. Ten questions per survey. Each question engineered to expose behavioral reality, not preference or sentiment. Leadership becomes visible when conditions are measured over time, not when emotions are sampled in isolation.
Pattern Detection
Isolated data points do not mean anything. Patterns do. Leadership conditions do not change all at once. They drift. ALI is built to detect movement through quarterly comparison, drift thresholds, condition to condition relationships, and underlying signal correlation. ALI treats it as directional: Are conditions strengthening? Are they weakening? How consistently? What underlying signals?
Directional Insight
Where culture is actually going, not where it feels like it is today. ALI combines environmental measurement and pattern detection to produce something most leaders never get: visibility into where the culture is heading if nothing changes.
Early Warning
Most leadership damage is preventable. It does not happen because leaders intend harm. It happens because they do not see the signals early enough to respond.
Early warning indicators are small, subtle behavioral shifts that signal larger structural problems forming beneath the surface. They are not crises. They are not failures. They are the earliest detectable signs that leadership conditions are beginning to drift.
Rising silence where clarity once existed
Small but repeated communication breakdowns
Increasing hesitation around decisions
Emotional compression or guardedness
Inconsistency in expectations or follow through
Subtle avoidance of tension or accountability
Distortion in how information moves through the team
Individually none of these feel urgent. Collectively they tell a clear story.
Early Intervention
- Adjusting behavior before trust is damaged
- Clarifying expectations before confusion becomes conflict
- Stabilizing communication before silence becomes permanent
- Reinforcing consistency before standards erode
- Addressing emotional tone before guardedness becomes culture
Late Correction
- Rebuilding trust after it has been broken
- Repairing relationships after damage has occurred
- Recovering clarity after confusion has compounded
- Re establishing stability after it has collapsed
- Recovering credibility after leadership has been questioned
One requires small adjustments. The other requires repair. ALI gives leaders the ability to act early.
How Leaders Use It
Finally a way to see leadership with accuracy and act with confidence.
Leaders use ALI to identify drift before it becomes conflict, stabilize communication, reinforce clarity, and lead with intention instead of reaction.
Identify drift early
See the pattern before it becomes a problem. Act while the adjustments are still small.
Stabilize communication
Find where information is breaking down and address the source, not the symptoms.
Reinforce clarity
Know whether direction, priorities, and expectations are landing the way you intend.
Understand emotional tone
See how the environment feels to the people operating inside it every day.
Strengthen trust
Measure whether your team experiences this as a place where they can be honest.
Lead with intention
Replace assumption with data. Replace reaction with direction. Replace hope with visibility.
The Intelligence Layer
The data tells you what. Archy tells you why and what to do about it.
Most dashboards stop at the numbers. ALI does not. Every condition score, every perception gap, every drift signal connects directly to Archy, the AI trained on thirty three years of lived leadership experience and the full Culture Science research foundation.
When ALI surfaces a gap in your Clarity score, Archy can tell you what that pattern typically means, what is likely driving it, and where to focus first. When your Leadership Mirror shows a significant perception gap between how you score yourself and how your team experiences you, Archy helps you understand what that gap signals and what leaders in similar positions have done to close it.
This is not generic AI advice pulled from the internet. It is pattern recognition from a specific corpus, built on the same research and lived experience that built ALI itself.
The data and the intelligence are designed to work together. ALI measures the conditions. Archy makes them actionable.
What ALI Surfaces
Your score. Your gaps. Your direction.
Seven conditions measured. Quarterly comparison. Leadership Mirror showing where your self perception and your team's experience diverge. Zone classification showing where your organization sits right now.
What Archy Adds
Context. Cause. Next move.
Ask Archy about any condition directly from your dashboard. Get pattern based interpretation of your data, likely causes behind the gaps, and specific actions calibrated to what your organization is actually experiencing.
The Result
A leader who knows what is happening and what to do next.
Not a report to file. Not a score to share. A living system that compounds with every survey cycle, giving you more directional intelligence the longer you are in it.

Ethics and Confidentiality
The trust that makes this possible is non negotiable.
Culture Science exists because leaders and teams trust us with their honest feedback. That trust is protected absolutely.
Complete Anonymity
Every assessment is completely anonymous. No names, no email addresses, no identifying information from team members completing surveys. Leaders see aggregate data only, never individual responses.
Aggregated Data Only
All data is aggregated and anonymized. Individual responses are never shared. Company specific data is only shared with permission and only in aggregate form.
No Selling. No Sharing.
The data is never sold. It is never shared with third parties. It is never used for marketing or solicitation. The team's honest feedback is the cornerstone of meaningful leadership growth and it is protected accordingly.
Secure Storage
All data is stored securely using industry standard encryption. Access is limited to authorized personnel only and all access is logged and monitored.
